In the town Sarah Palin made famous, a battle to be mayor

WASILLA -- A lot of growth is going on in the roughly 13 square miles that make up Wasilla. Five candidates are vying to direct the flow of that growth for the next three years.

On the Oct. 7 ballot to fill the Wasilla mayor seat is a real estate agent, a lawyer, a nonprofit council director, a log-home builder and a graduate student. All view the city's needs slightly differently.

Wasilla's mayor presides over meetings, makes public appearances, and also manages day-to-day city business. The full-time job pays $75,000 a year, plus benefits, and includes the use of a city vehicle.
