More on this Story

Alaskans treated Gov. Sarah Palin more like a movie star than their governor at an Anchorage rally Saturday, snapping cell phone pictures, taking video and pressing for autographs from Palin and her now-famous seven-year-old daughter Piper.

"Alaska, I'll be doing it for you," Palin told the roaring crowd of about 1,500 at the new Dena'ina Convention Center downtown.

"Going forth in these days ahead, Alaska, I pledge to do my level best to be worthy of the confidence this beautiful state has put to me."

Palin took the stage with Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" blaring from the loudspeakers.

After signing autographs following the rally, the Republican nominee for vice president left Alaska in her vice presidential campaign jet to resume campaigning in the Lower 48.
