Almost as soon as Florida fell out of Hanna's forecast cone, it slipped into Ike's, and that mighty, major hurricane could be on our doorstep Tuesday.

Tourists will be told to leave the Florida Keys starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a mandatory resident evacuation to begin in stages starting at 8 a.m. Sunday.

''We are in a state of emergency,'' Gov. Charlie Crist said Friday from the state's emergency operations center in Tallahassee, repeating: "We are in a state of emergency.''

Hurricane Ike's path will depend on the same steering currents that are pulling Tropical Storm Hanna toward a landfall in South Carolina on Saturday.

By Friday, many tracking models, including the National Hurricane Center's official forecast, pointed Ike on a course through the Turks and Caicos Islands, the southern Bahamas -- and then toward South Florida and the Keys, possibly as a ferocious Category 4 storm.

Some models show the storm taking a more southerncourse over Cuba's north coast before hooking up through the Keys and toward the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday.
