Opinions of Palin and her policies divide friends in Idaho

Charlene Ford and Anne Turner have been having coffee together for years, and the fact that they take opposite views of John McCain's running mate won't change that.

"I still love her," said Ford of Turner, as the two sat in the sun at Eagle's Renaissance Cafe, trading comments about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Ford, a retired pharmacist and political independent, said she'll vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

"I think she's fabulous; she has done things as a woman that inspire me," said Ford, mentioning Palin's stint in commercial fishing.

"She's taken on companies in Alaska; she has raised children, which we all know is a difficult job - she has had her troubles with that and dealt with them gracefully."

Turner, a Democrat, said she was uncomfortable with Palin's position on sex education in the public schools.

"Children really need to have an education in the family ... public schools also have the responsibility for education in that area," she said.
