Your wallet is about to take another hit.
The price of heating a home with natural gas is expected to be at least 20 percent higher this winter, according to federal predictions.
Local utilities are encouraging people to prepare by winterizing and caulking their homes now.
For rural homeowners, propane prices also are up.
There's no way to tell what the price of propane will be this winter, said Greg Noll, executive vice president for the Propane Marketers Association of Kansas.
"Right now, it's 10 to 20 percent higher than it was at times last year," he said. "We are hopeful we will see positive things, but we are expecting the worst."
