Penn State fencing coach Emmanuil Kaidanov was not planning to go to China to watch the Olympics, but last weekend he was having some second thoughts.

"I may still change my mind and still go to Beijing," said Kaidanov, who has been to three Olympic Games in the past.

What would cause him to change his mind and fly to the other side of the planet?

Three Nittany Lions will be there looking to win a gold medal.

Doris Willette, Adam Wiercioch and Nontapat Panchan will all be chasing their Olympic dreams. Panchan, a national champion for Penn State in 2002 and 2003, will compete in foil for Thailand and Wiercioch, a four-time All-American from 2001- 04, is a member of the Polish team and will compete in epee. Willette, a rising sophomore and an NCAA champion last spring, also competes in foil and is an alternate on the U.S. team.
