Never miss a McClatchy story

Margaret Tanton, 78, doesn't understand why more people don't show their patriotism and fly the American flag these days.

Part of what is dubbed "the greatest generation," she is the mother of six sons, three of whom served in the Vietnam War. Tanton and her husband, Jimmy, peppered the rim of the white picket fence of their 15th Street home with flags shortly after the attacks on 9/11.

"I don't see much patriotism today," she said. "People just aren't very patriotic. I just don't know why."

Sgt. Colin Sesek, 22, of Boise, might have an answer. He will return home in August after serving four years in the Army and 15 months in Iraq.
