Violence in Iraq, Friday 1 February, 2008

Baghdad

38 people were killed and 82 injured when a woman wearing an explosive belt under an all covering, floor length coat detonated at 10:15 this morning in Suk al-Ghazil, a popular pet market traditionally held on Friday mornings in Jumhuriyah St, central Baghdad.

27 people were killed and 67 wounded in an explosion in another, smaller pet market in New Baghdad at 10:30 this morning. The explosion was carried out by a female suicide bomber.

3 bodies were found in Baghdad today by Iraqi Police. 1 in Diyala Bridge area, 1 in al-Qahira and 1 in Bayaa.

Salahuddin

1 policeman injured by sniper fire in Samarra late this afternoon. A police force chased the gunmen, killed 3 and captured 1 in al-Sikkak neighbourhood.
