Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Tuesday 1 January 2008

The daily Iraq violence report is complied by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

- Around 4.45 p.m., a suicide bomber wearing a vest filled with explosives targeted a funeral at Zayouna neighborhood of an officer who was injured at Tayaran intersection’s explosion on Friday noon and died yesterday in hospital . 30 people were killed in today incident and 38 injured . Some of them were from police and army who came to take part in the funeral.

- Police found ( 3 ) unidentified dead bodies in the following neighborhoods in Baghdad: ( 2 ) were found in Saidiyah in west Baghdad ( Karkh bank ). While ( 1 ) was found in Zayuna in east Baghdad ( Risafa bank).

Diyala

- At dawn , an American squad raided Bhriz village ( 3 km south of Baquba ) killing one member of Sahwa council ( Awakening )and injuring 2 others .After that they arrest 8 suspected people .Meanwhile , a leader of Mijahdeen army in the area came with two of his followers who were arrested by the American forces ,too.

- Tuesday noon, gunmen killed an Iraqi army soldier at Ragat Haji Suheil ( 7 km north Baquba ) and during transferring the dead body to the morgue an IED targeted the police car which was carrying it injuring one policeman .
