Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Saturday 10 November 2007

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A civilian was killed and 10 others were wounded when an IED exploded near a bus in Baladiyat neighborhood east Baghdad around 7,00 am.

An IED exploded near Al Gailani fuel station in Sheikh Omar neighborhood downtown Baghdad around 10,00 am. 3 civilians were wounded in the explosion.

A parked car exploded in Al Tayaran square downtown Baghdad around 5,00 pm. No casualties recorded.

Police found 6 anonymous bodies in Baghdad today. 3 bodies were found in Karkh, the western side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (1 body in Doura, 1 body in Amil and 1 body in Elam). The other 3 bodies were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (1 body in Sadr city, 1 body in Ur and 1 body in Palestine Street).

Nineveh

4 civilians were killed and 16 others were injured in cluding women and children when an IED exploded targeting a bus nearby the stock market downtown Mosiul city around 11,00 am.

Salahuddin

18 Qaeda fighters were killed and 16 others were captured when they were attacked by the fighters of the Islamic army in Banat Al Hasan village 15 Kms south of Samara city yesterday afternoon. The Islamic army members seized 6 cars full with weapons.

Diyala

Clashes broke up between the Iraqi army and Qaeda in Al Ehemir area downtown Baquba city yesterday night. 2 Qaeda fighters were killed and an Iraqi soldier was killed.

Gunmen opened fire killing a civilian in Al Qatoon neighborhood west Baquba city yesterday night.

The Iraqi police released a kidnapped man after chasing the kidnappers in Muqdadiyah city northeast Baquba city yesterday night.

At 6,00 pm yesterday, a suicide bomber attacked the house of Sheikh Lafta Al Obeidi, the head of Sahwa in Khalis city town (15 Kms north of Baquba) killing the sheikh and four other men with him.

Qaeda insurgents attacked Albo Azeez village, part of Dalli Abbas town (20 Kms south of Baquba city) yesterday night. The residents of the village resisted the insurgents killing 3 of them. 4 of the residents were killed in the fight.

An IED exploded nearby the gate of one of the orchards in Um Al Edham village south of Baquba city yesterday morning killing a child and injuring 6 other people (4 children and 2 women)

7 mortar shells hit a market in Baladrooz city (15 Kms east of Baquba city) yesterday night. 3 children were killed and 5 people were wounded (3 children and 2 women).

Kirkuk

Gunmen exploded an oil pipeline using a remote controlled IED. The explosion happened today afternoon west of Kirkuk near Al Reyadh area between Biji and Kirkuk cities. Police said that the firefighters couldn’t put off the fire until 7,00 pm. Smoke clouds covered the area.

Gunmen opened fire injuring a soldier from the 1st battalion, the 2nd brigade. The incident happened in Al Yarmouk neighborhood in Hawija town west Kirkuk today afternoon.
