Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Tuesday 14 August 2007

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

2 civilians were wounded in an IED explosion in Yarmouk neighborhood west Baghdad around 11,00 am.

2 civilians were injured in clashes between the Iraqi army and gunmen in Shorja market neighborhood downtown Baghdad around 12,00 pm.

10 civilians were killed and 6 injured in a truck explosion targeted Thira’a Dijla bridge north of Baghdad around 1,00. The bridge was destroyed completely by the explosion. Three cars fell in the river.

Gunmen broke in the building of marketing in the ministry of oil in Zayuna neighborhood east Baghdad and kidnapped the general inspector of the ministry of oil Abdul Jabbar Al Wagga’a with two of his guards and 4 general directors. Police said that the gunmen were wearing a military uniform and they clashed with the guards of the directorate injuring 5 guards.

Gunmen opened fire targeting the civilians in Al Jami’aa neighborhood west Baghdad killing 1 civilian and injuring 4.

3 civilians were wounded when mortar shell hit Al Shaab neighborhood north Baghdad around 7,00 pm.

Police found 15 anonymous bodies in Baghdad today. 9 bodies were found in Karkh, the western side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (2 bodies in Ghazaliyah, 2 bodies in Bayaa, 2 bodies in Amil, 1 body in Doura, 1 body in Saidiyah and 1 body in Jihad). 6 bodies were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (3 bodies in Adhemiyah, 2 bodies in Sadr city and 1 body in Talbiyah).

Kirkuk

4 policemen from one of the patrols of the emergencies battalion of Kirkuk police were wounded in an IED explosion in Wahid Huzairan neighborhood downtown Kirkuk city around 9,45 am.

3 civilians were wounded in an IED explosion in Al Korneesh street downtown Kirkuk city around 10,10 am. The sources said that the IED targeted a police patrol.

4 policemen and 2 civilians were wounded in an IEd explosion that targeted a police patrol in Al Tayaran square downtown Kirkuk city around 1,00 pm.

Mosul

- Around 7.30 p.m., four car bombs exploded in four different places in Sinjar district ( far west of Mosul) which is so close to the Syrian border, killing more than 220 people and injuring more than 500 hundreds. The people in this area are Yazidi Kurds .

Basra

The spokesman of Basra Police Colonel Abdul Kareem Al Zaidi said that 2 civilians were killed and another one injured when one of the rockets launched by gunmen hit a house in Al Maqal neighborhood north Basra city yesterday evening.
