Roundup of daily violence in Iraq - Thursday 9 August 2007

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

3 Iraqi soldiers were wounded in clashes with gunmen tried to attack the pilgrims who were going towards the shrine of Kadhemiyah. The clashes took place in Qahtan square in Yarmouk neighborhood downtown Baghdad around 2,00 pm.

Police found 9 anonymous bodies in Baghdad today. 6 bodies were found in Karkh, the western side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (2 bodies in Amil, 2 bodies in Bayaa, 1 body in Saidiyah and 1 body in Rahmaniyah.) 3 bodies in were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (1 body in Sadr city, 1 body in Shaab and 1 body in New Baghdad.)

Kirkuk

A child was killed and 4 of his family injured when mortar shell hit their house in Hawija town west Kirkuk yesterday evening.

Basra

A policeman and other civilians were injured when two mortar shells hit the directorate of police in Hakimiyah neighborhood downtown Basra city today afternoon. The source didn’t mention the number of wounded civilians.
