Never miss a McClatchy story

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad - Around 7:30 p.m. a mortar shell landed in Karada area near Al Masbah road intersection. 4 civilians were injured. - A road side bomb exploded in AL Doura neighborhood targeting police vehicle. 2 policemen were injured. - Police found 11 dead bodies throughout the capital today in the neighborhoods. 2 in Sadr, 2 in Mansour, 1 in Abu Ghraib, 3 in Amil, 2 in Saidiyah, 1 in Eskan Diyala - A U.S. military statement said a helicopter used missiles to kill 17 Al Qaeda gunmen and destroyed a vehicle south west of AL Khalis city as they were trying to get around an Iraqi police checkpoint on Friday. - Gunmen killed a civilian in Al Khalis market today. - Gunmen attacked Abu Sayda mayor’s convoy. One body guard was injured. - Gunmen killed a citizen in Dali Abbas village today. - A road side bomb exploded targeting an Iraqi army convoy in Qara Taba town. 3 soldiers were injured. Kirkuk - On Thursday June 21 gunmen clashed with an Iraqi army 1st Brigade of the 2nd army infantry division patrol near Makhmour town. One Iraqi Kurd soldier, Othman Abdul Hameed, was killed in the clash, his family said. - On Thursday night a rocket landed in central Kirkuk in front of shops near Al Shourja fuel station. 3 civilians were injured. - Around 5 a.m. a road side bomb exploded in AL Hawija city (west of Kirkuk). The explosion targeted a mini bus near a small bridge in the city. One civilian was injured. - An IED exploded in Al Nasr neighborhood in Kirkuk this morning. The IED exploded as the police was arriving to defuse it. The local police managed to defuse another bomb near the site. One civilian was injured. - Around 11 p.m. yesterday night two bombs exploded inside the court house of Al Hawija city. This morning police found another bomb attached to fuel cans. On 11 a.m. this morning another bomb exploded in the court house causing damages to the building. No human casualties.
