David Whitney writes for The Sacramento Bee and The (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) Tribune. He's worked for McClatchy in Washington since 1986, and written for its papers in Washington state and Alaska. Prior to joining McClatchy, Whitney worked for The Oregonian for 13 years, the last four of which were as its correspondent in Washington, D.C. He holds a B.S. and a M.S. in English literature from the California State University in Chico.
