James Rosen writes for McClatchy's South Carolina newspapers. He previously was a national reporter for McClatchy and the Washington correspondent for The (Raleigh, N.C.) News & Observer. He won the McClatchy President's Award for his coverage of the 2000 post-election Florida recount and received a National Press Club award for regional reporting from Washington. Before joining the Washington bureau, he was an assistant metro editor for The News & Observer, a reporter for the New York Daily News and a Moscow correspondent for United Press International. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, he holds a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
